
The Importance of Grounding in Meditations

The old school of thought taught that you had to ground yourself before meditating. This meant that you
had to picture yourself planting deep roots into the earth so that you would be connected to the earth and
not go flying off. We are here to say that that no longer holds true. The question to ask yourself is what
are you doing when you meditate? Even when you are dreaming? The answer is that you are traveling.
The Ego steps aside when you meditate or dream. It takes a break. Your higher consciousness takes
over. In your dreams and in meditation, you are traveling to other places, other times and other
dimensions. You are working through the problems of the day and of your life. The only issue is that when
you are doing this, you are vibrating at a higher level. When you are awake and in your physical
consciousness, you are vibrating at a much lower level. These two levels are vibrating at different
frequencies; they are speaking two different languages. When you don’t ground, there is no connection
between the two. This is why you have trouble remembering what happened during your dreaming or in
meditation. You can’t bring the answers that you discovered back to your physical consciousness. They
stay up there. The true idea of grounding is to create a connection between your physical consciousness
and you higher consciousness. Grounding does this by forming a line, or tube of energy between these
two parts of you and this acts as a translator between the two. This will allow what is experienced in the
higher consciousness to be transmitted and translated to the physical consciousness. There are no rules
to this grounding. It goes to the four elements and what you feel is right in your heart in that moment. You
can be drawn to one element for most of your life and than one day wake up and be drawn to another one,
or all four at once. There is no wrong way to any of this. Depending on how visual a person you are, you
can take this to whatever level you choose.
The idea is to do this before you meditate or before going to sleep. As you go through your breathing and
begin to relax picture one of the following in your mind.
1) If you are drawn to the water, the sea, the ocean, than you are a water person. To ground, see
your feet buried in the sand and this covered by the ocean. Feel the moistness of the sand, the smell of
the salt in the air. Feel the sun’s warmth on your body. Take this image as far as you want. Once you have
done this, you have created the connection between your physical consciousness and your higher
consciousness. You are now grounded.
2) If you are drawn to the forests and nature, than you are an earth person. To ground, see your feet
buried in the soil of the earth. Notice how the soil feels around your feet. Breath in its fragrance.
3) If you are drawn to the sky, to heights, than you are an air person. To ground, see your feet
covered by clouds. You can make them white puffy ones, or thunderheads. It all goes to how you are
feeling in your heart in that moment.
4) If you are drawn to action, to strong emotions, to heat, than you are a fire person. See your feet
covered by lava. This lava does not burn you or cause you any harm. You can see it flowing over your feet
in its liquid form or in a cooling, hardened state. The choice is yours.
Doing any of these, will ground you. You will be able to see and feel the connection of energy that travels
from your physical consciousness to your higher consciousness as you travel. The more that you do this,
the deeper you will be able to go and the more information you will be able to bring back with you. Not
grounding is why you sometimes feel drained when you wake up from dreaming or coming out of
meditation.
By continually grounding, you are in constant contact with that higher aspect of you. You are always filled
with this constant flow of high energy. People that don’t need a lot of sleep have a natural ability to always
be grounded. They were born with this switch on.
